Gritty dirty scrungy looking

One of the things I love about Duke3D is how it looks gritty, you have bins all over the place and rurish all around, the streets have a dirty scrungy look to them.

I really hope DNF isn't going for the "Everything is shiny" look that games have these days, I hope there is some good balance and you still get the "This place looks like it hasn't been cleaned for years" feeling still. Or just an overall feeling of grittyness, obviously some places need the shiny look, but city streets, sidewalks, subways and sewers I hope still look scrungy.

i go with that. I think it adds more realism if everything looks more used. a city or wherever duke's travelling never looks 'out of the box clean' in real-life.
not that duke is real, but you get my point.

the bathrooms in prey were the perfect example of "scrungy"

I really don't remember any modern games with that so called 'clean' look to them. But then again i only buy and play a new game every couple of months. Only game i'm playing now is wow.

I think a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. level of dirty and grimy would be too much. After all the aliens just recently invaded Earth(I'm assuming) so maybe a Dead Space level of freshly wrought mayhem and violence would be more in line with DNF?
