Aussies

Hear ye hear ye, all australian folk! Is there any good SCUBA diving in Melbourne?

Cool stuff to do? Thinking about taking a trip there in August.

Tell all!

Say goodbye to your head, wanker!

/Jarate is going to be so fun to use
//personally was hoping for either a razor-edged boomerang or a gun that shoots koalas

I hope the gold coast you mentioned is not a reference to how much you enjoy giving golden showers.

Meh.

I'm not going to hope that a Box jellyfish kills you. But, I'm not exactly going to be sad if one does.

Thanks guys! Bought the tickets yesterday. A few days in Cairns for some diving then a week or so in Melbourne to visit a friend and party. Probably end up going to the zoo and seeing some kangaroos and shit.

Might check out Tasmania for a day or two, just for the hell of it.

Melbourne is good for the nightlife. There are tons and tons of nightclubs and pubs in the City and in places like Brunswick Street and Chapel Street. If you've got a mate living here then he should be able to take you to some good places. Royal Melbourne Zoo is pretty good value too and there's a whole section devoted to Australian animals.

I'm originally from Tasmania, where are you planning to visit?

come to penrith, i dare ya...and dont worry about the lads

Melbourne is way down on the south coast and it doesn't exactly fit with the tropical paradise setting that you're after. You could probably do some scuba diving here but it's freezing cold in August. As has already been said you're better off doing that sort of shit up towards the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland. Melbourne has lots of other stuff to see and do. I'd reccommend going to a footy match at the very least. I'm not sure what else to reccommend. I'm a local so I don't really do all the tourist sort of things here.

As long as it doesn't involve me having to do paperwork...

I thought Melbourne was a giant tourist trap with tons of stuff to do...

One of the best scuba diving places in the world is in the Great Barrier Reef but that's way up north on the Gold Coast (on the north-east part of Australia). Melbourne doesn't really have anything that could even begin to compare

Beware the Royal Roo Mounted Police.

Thanks. That was helpful.

If it does, I will curse your name and promise to come back and haunt you.

@Gorbet
Yeah, we are stopping in Tasmania but I'm not sure where we are going. I want to say Hobart? What are the hot spots in Tasmania anyway? It looks pretty scenic and cool, but I really don't know much about it other than there are old prisons there.

Ghosts don't exist so I'm okay with this.

I'll haunt your dreams. The subconscious guilt you will feel for my demise will surely weigh heavily upon you.

Most of the hot spots in Tasmania are the natural features like the temperate rainforests, Cradle Mountain, Lake Pedder, Lake St. Clair and old towns like Port Arthur where the old prison is. The old Cascade Brewery is probably worth a visit too.

Salamanca Market is a pretty nice place to stop at as well, I remember how I used to go their all the time as a kid

Cool. Thanks guys!

Yes, do come to Queensland. It's sunnier and not as gloomy as Melbourne. If you are going to Cairns though, beware of STDs. Too many backpackers pass through there.

I'm sure the sniper is chock full of stereotypes but i'm not entirely convinced that they're all that far off. From every indication Aussies are friendly almost beyond compare.
