Outside of that amazing visage, one of the wallpapers show's tyrael with the caption "And The Heavens Shall Tremble". Do you think Tyrael was corrupted when the worldstone was destroyed?

Tyraels Might

I wouldn't think so but in any case I seriously hope not because I think Tyrael is pretty cool and I don't want him to fall in the evil camp. Though it's a possibility, especially considering that something felt on Tristram's cathedral meaning it came from the sky meaning it might have come from the heaven meaning that maybe the heaven got corrupted meaning that Tyrael might have been corrupted and brought that corruption to heaven or something.

I thought this thread was about the D2 unique item

I think Tyrael has always had his own agenda, whether corrupted or not remains to be seen.

Wasn't he exiled for helping the mortals directly?

This debate has been around since the end of Lord of Destruction.

Some hypothesize that Tyrael was what crashed down into the Tristram cathedral in the form of a comet, given that concept art has been shown revealing an Arch Angel rising up from the fiery ruins before Leah.

The Heavens are probably angry with Tyrael. Not only did he intervene on the part of humanity multiple times, but has destroyed the fragile balance between the planes in a number of ways, not the least of which was the destruction of the World Stone. At the beginning of time for Sanctuary, Humanity was the offspring of Angels and Demons, and possessed great potential. However, the World Stone was created to hide them away, and sapped them of their strength. With that now destroyed, there exists the possibility that Humanity will rise up as a cosmic power, strong enough to oppose both the High Heavens and the Burning Hells. This was all covered in the Diablo books.

Given that Tyrael has obviously sided with man kind, and has potentially empowered them, what goal might he desire?

I very much doubt that Tyrael has been corrupted, but I have no doubt he harbors a plan for Sanctuary, and by extension the rest of Existence.

Naturally, this all leads to an interesting conclusion: Heaven and Hell might combine their efforts to stop him. But who best to lead the charge? With Hell severely weakened by internecine and war, it will need a new champion. Perhaps this is how Diablo resurfaces: Heaven resurrects him. =]

Alternatively, the struggle between Heaven and Hell keeps Existence in balance. Were Heaven to win, the world would be overcome by stagnation from too much Order. And, were Hell to be victorious, the World would burn in chaos. Heaven is now more powerful, so perhaps Tyrael might take the battle to heaven to regain a measure of balance.

I think it is Imperius. Archangel of War arriving. He hates humans and demons. Tyrael used to abhor humans too until the events of the sin war trilogy, where he was moved by the actions of a human. Read the sin War trilogy. It is very informative. Trael is the Archangel of Justice. Hope to know more about the Angiris Council in Diablo 3.

It's doubtful it's Tyrael, there was a really good article written by someone who linked it at some point in the past who dissected what he believed to be happening in the art and movie in regards to the "crashed" being.

If you look closely, though, it's unlikely that the being who crashed was Tyrael (armor doesn't match).

Someone on Diablo 3 Fan Forums wrote this lengthy treatise on the identity of the being, finally coming to the conclusion that it was Imperius due to th inverted sword emblem emblazoned on its armor.

So then, perhaps is Tyrael on the side of the humans versus heaven AND hell, or imperius himself manipulating hells legions.

Essentially. Either way it'll turn out fairly epic in nature.
