D2 Ladder Reset Coming Soon promotion for D3

Bashiok gave word that a Diablo II ladder reset is coming down the wire with the release of the new 1.13 patch, saying "we’re providing early warning as a reset could occur as early as the end of April". The patch, which Blizzard has taken a new step by allowing community feedback for patch note ideas, is stated to be a major content patch, the details of which have not been revealed.
We’re preparing for a Diablo II ladder reset to coincide with the release of the 1.13 patch that’s currently in development. We don’t have a final release date for the patch yet, but we’re providing early warning as a reset could occur as early as the end of April. We’ll be providing updates with more certain dates once the patch is closer to release.
Please be aware that with a ladder reset all ladder characters are moved to non-ladder. This means that your characters will still be accessible but will no longer have access to ladder-only features and games. In order to play in the new ladder season after the reset you will need to make new ladder characters.
This thread will be updated with more information as it becomes available.
It will be intersting to see what kind of fresh new ideas roll out with the new patch.

In my opinion, the new patch will most likely feature some new small d3 related content. In any case the whole ladder reset is certainly a way to bring the diablo players back to the world of Sanctuary and build some more hype for the new game.

This is pretty cool. I'm interested in what they do with the new patch... I imagine it cant be something like balance issues at this point... I cant wait to see what fun stuff they can add in to get me to play a bit more :-)

Actually it looks like a lot of players feels like there are balance issues with the game. Take a look at the suggestion thread http://forums.battle.net/thread.html...88961&sid=3000. It's supposed to be a content patch so trying to fix some probably unjustified issues is pretty lame as a suggestion imo.
Some are asking for a new area, that would seriously be awesome but I doubt they would do such a thing. A new monster might make more sens but it would still be a great deal. After thinking about it, maybe they'll add something after you beat Baal, a new D3 tidbit. That would make pretty much everyone play the game completely again, even more than adding new items or rune words related to D3.

well, I haven't looked at them all, but I would like to point out that :

Fix the bugged mercenary voices. First act mercenary voice is awful and we clearly see its bugged. It sounds like a man.
Fix the crashing caused by the patch 1.12 (The new no cd cause unexpected crashes)
Remove the "kill the Cow king prevent making the Cow level portal"
-Fix rushing (Taking a level 1 to act 5 and beyond) Seriously, level 10 min to kill andy, and similar levels for higher boss
-Reduce the amount of invulnerabilities on Hell monters. Its impossible for a sorceress to beat Hell. (Invul to fire, invul to thunder, invul to ice, how the hell can I kill them?)
-Get rid of maphack
Get rid of BOTS (Aka spammers that we can't block/mute because they "Aren't logged into battlenet")
Fix skills with bugged synergies (IE: skill that increase Warmth damage, a passive skill)
Some skills have no synergies but recieve bonus from other skills without synergies (Barb skill tree is full of them. Some warcry have hidden synergies that increase the damage of skills)

All of these issues are non-existent. Like much of the warcraft 3 "balance" problems a lot of people added to the patch thread, and very little was considered by blizzard to be actual balance problems, I believe all the balance suggestions above fall under that as well.
They already ban maphackers, and bot users. The reason its impossible for a sorceress to beat hell is because they don't want one character to be able to beat hell. The reason you don't get a free mercenary after completing the same quest the next two difficulties is because the rogue sucks, and she would replace your current merc, which likely doesnt suck.

Mercenary issue isn't about replacing Mercenaries in later quests, it's that you should have the choice to accept the Rogue Mercenary or not. These quests were created back when Mercs weren't permanent and didn't move between acts. It makes no sense for them to remain the way they are.
Asking for them to remove the consequence of killing the Cow King is pretty lame though. Was this person just being lazy, or stupid? "Fix rushing" -- asinine. People play the game how they wish to play it. Stop forcing your gameplay style on others, it's stupid. I'll play the game the way I want to, thanks.
I would like to see them rebalance Blessed Hammer and possibly increase the rune drops. I think it's fucking stupid that they create all these awesome high end runewords that NO ONE who plays the game normally will EVER FUCKING SEE -- they literally encourage duping becuase that's the only way people will see these runes.
Really I can't think of any other skill that needs to be looked at as much as Blessed Hammer. IMO, the easiest way to nip it in the bud is to remove it's special of ignoring immunities on Demons, and possibly Undead as well.
If they do "fix" rushing, or make the game easier for idiots who don't pay attention, I just might stay away for good. Honestly the idea that I should be forced to quest through every single fucking act again is not very appealing.

lol.. sorceresses can beat hell by themselves, but most cannot. All I was saying is that they intentionally made it difficult for each class to beat hell on its own, not that they made it impossible. I did use the same word as that guy in the post, and its a poor word to use, but that wasn't the point of what I said.

Believe what you want here, I think its a waste of time. Most people wont be okay with their mercenary being replaced for free. Gold means nothing in d2, so if you want to believe 50,000 gold per merc is too much, feel free. However, when I can find a couple wands, scepters, staves, etc. and get 35000 from most, I believe money means nothing in the game, especially in terms of reviving a merc.
If anything, the next couple merc quests in the next difficulty levels should give you a nice item to give to your merc, based on what that merc is, rather than a free Rogue, that almost no one will even want.

Most of those suggestions in that thread suck. If anything, there should be more items which have additional damage vs all monsters in late game, to give room for further improvement on weapons in late levels, while still keeping some sort of balance between classes in PVP.
I do think the immunities should be relaxed a little in hell, just a little...

The point, you've missed it... I think.
I don't think the idea is to replace your current mercenary, it's to be given choices. For instance, say in Act 3 you do the quest that when completed would give you an Iron Wolf as a mercenary... Instead of the current way it acts it would, instead, give you an option:
Recruit the Iron Wolf (like normal)
(or) Res your current merc for free/ignore the iron wolf
(or) Replace your current Merc
You speak of end game gameplay styles -- where a couple wands can get you your mercenary back, whereas the suggestion here is to just tweak the game so that 4 (x3) don't give such worthless rewards. Hell they could even leave it the same away and just give a reward of, say, in each difficulty if you complete every mercenary quest, then all costs associated with the Mercenary Recruiters are cut by 30% (hiring/resing). Something simple like that.

Immunities are fine, really, people who try to rely on a single-element shouldn't be rewarded (which is what the problem is with Blessed Hammer). Items, specifically weapons, are too powerful as it is anyway.
I'd prefer to see rebalancing over new weapons by far.

Next character made during ladder is going to be a grief/phoenix berserker barb, it's fucking ridiculous how much a level 1 zerk does on my frenzy barb. Talking about 2 hitting anything in 8 player hell baal.

Phoenix (as long as you can kill stuff, you can stay alive)
Infinity (this isn't as bad, but it makes the game easy mode for casters)
