in the color one, there is no reason for the three silhouettes to be different colors. sends the wrong message (btw, if anything the outside ones should be darker since they are farther away, but no need for that). I would also rethink your bold text idea, especially on the bottom line. "Union" isn't an important word? Because that's what you're telling me. How about emphasizing the first letter of each word instead? S.C.S.U.
I like the shape around the SCSU though, that's nice. And the action girl. The whole graphic part on the left-hand side could probably stand by itself, if the cap wasn't so damned big. I think it ought to be smaller in width that the "SCSU," considering it's less important. And doing so would also rein in the size a little bit, easier on the eyes and puts everything in one glance. .
I just did this in MSpaint so you can see what I'm talking about - reduced the cap to about 60%, so that the points fall halfway between the widths of the middle and top elements. I also made the silhouettes a little shorter. And make the middle guy the same color as the outside guys (I didn't do this).
