This guy seems to be ignoring the obvious. "When they connect" is because at 2 - 0, you're mostly swinging at fat pitches. That means it's obvious you're going to get better hits.

Same thing. It's because you're only sending someone you're sure can make it on 3-0. It's a huge waste if the pitch is a ball, so it's a huge gamble.
