5.1 surround sound not working

Hi guys, i do need some help here.

I am running Winxp.
I am connecting my 5.1 speaker into Creative XTREME Gamer sound card, however, the bass, centre, and rear speaker ain't working.

I tried connecting them to my GIGABYTE EP45 UD3P onboard soundcard (Realtek), it's also the same, no sound unless i set them to "Front Speaker Out" using Realtek HD Audio Manager.

Anyone knows how to fix this problem? Thanks in advance!

Could there be a switch on your speakers that you have to set it to 5.1?

What is the sound source?

If you're playing a stereo MP3, there won't be any sound from the center or rear.

shadowpr: no there's not switch or anything..

XenaWP: used to have audio coming out from the center and rear speaker when i was using the previous PC. i just recently found out that they ain't working after changing a CPU.

if you are playing back from mp3 files etc they are stereo. You need to make sure that:
-the card is configured for 5.1.
- the relevant upmix option is on (such as CMSS)
