PC is working very slow
How much free space on the hard drive?
And get more ram. 1gb minimum.
Also, do you have a lot of things starting up with windows?

248mb of RAM is no where near what you need to run that system, you should consider using at least 1gig of RAM.
Do you know how to access the startup list via MSCONFIG?

Click on start, go to run and type: msconfig
From there, choose the tab that says startup.
If there aren't that many, or you have time, you can list the ones that have checks next to them. The more that have checks, the more programs that are trying to run on start up.

You don't need anything running on startup. You can uncheck them all.
Your worst enemy on that computer is Symantc anti-crapius it takes over your machine and leaves very few resources for you to use even with 1GB of memory. I would just dump it and get Avast or Calamwin.
Good luck

thanks all . Your suggestions really help me in getting my system to normal state .
I uninstalled the symantec antivirus and installed avast home edition and also unchecked all the startup list.
Thanks,
