Need advice on upgrading CPU

I have never tried this before. But I would like to upgrade to a faster cpu. I have no idea what info you need to help but here is some.
Motherboard is a Abit VA Series VA-10
It will support a AMD K7 Athlon XP FSB 333/266/200MHz Processors
The chipset is VIA KM400 / VT8235
Belarc Advisor tell me that right now I have a 1.3 gigahertz AMD Athlon installed. I know that the socket is a 462 (A).

I have never done anything like this but would like to learn. So how fast can I go? What pit falls are in store for me? What CPU do you advice me to buy?
Thanks for your time and help!

Socket A cpu's are pretty hard to find - which will make the price higher then it should be.

I'm pretty sure you could use a Barton 2500 which is rated at 1.7gHZ.
