Whats the build mainly for?

oh, is for gamer and i would like it to last at least 5 year before i get a new pc.

go for the e8600 and get a third party fan. c2d's are better for games than C2Q's.
Also, what's your budget, we can help you spec a build.

Even though at this time the E8600 would be faster for gaming, a lot of new games coming out, specially strategy games are starting to utilize more cores. No gaming machine you build today will stay game proof for 5 years. 3 Years is pushing it, unless you are talking about playing Solitaire. The Version 2 of the Asus i7 motherboards are starting to show stability, going with an i7 or an AM3 from AMD might be the best way to get some longevity out of your machine for gaming. Over time and as games get more video intense you will need to upgrade your video card, how soon will depend on what you buy to start with.
As tomtoon requested, please give us an idea on your budget.

The main issue I see at this time with i7 is the cost of the X58 boards. There really isnt a "budget" i7 solution yet. On the Intel side of the house, you still get the strongest gaming performance for the buck with a P45 and a E8x00 processor. Of course, this is going to change sooner rather than later. In order to keep up with games, you will essentially be doing annual upgrades anyway, it's always been that way and will probably continue to be that way for a long time.

which brands of ram would u guys recommend for a gamer pc?

teddy3254

new advice

I would recommend Corsair or OCZ.(Only because I have a mate who has used both and been very stable)

I second the recommendation for Corsair. They're pretty reliable, and the one stick that I got that was DOA was replaced quite quickly.
