Autorun error on my dvd drive
I'm running window Xp and the dvd drive im using is a HP dvd640. Every time i try to install something that is a dvd, i would always get an autorun error because it "encountered a problem." The dvd i use work because i have tried to install them in a different computer. I've tried that Autofix repair wizard thing and the program tells me that is a Autoplay v2 event error, but it cannot be repaired. Here the log:
AutoFix [V5.2.3790.67]

>> Repair << [Autoplay V2 Event]
Step: No steps to take.
Result: This AutoPlay setting cannot be fixed. Either the device is malfunctioning, or the wizard cannot determine the problem.

Any suggestion?

Autorun error on my dvd drive
Just OPEN the file and use the set up files and install it that way.
If that doesn't work, try plugging in another drive.

ok now my dvd drive is not acting consistently. Today when i boot up my computer and tried to install the game, i still get a autorun error. However when i try to manual access the the setup.exe (explore the dvd), im getting a error saying:
E:\Setup.exe
This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem

Chuck is basically right.
Can you borrow another DVD drive from someone ?
If that works then you have a physical problem with your optical drive.
If that fails as well, no DVD drives will work with your system, then you may need an operating system restore but rule out hardware failure first.

DVD drives are dual natured, if you will.
It's usual for one or the other function to die on you, DVD tends to go out first, while the other continues.
If the computer is still under warranty let HP ship you a replacement.

DVDs and CDs use different lasers, so there are actually two laser diodes and two sensors in your drive. One dying before the other is therefore pretty likely.
