Second Laptop Hard Drive
I bought a gateway p-7805u laptop a few months ago and since the computer has room for a second hard drive I decided to add a 500gig WD drive yesterday. Since adding the drive I am no longer able to access disk management after the initial format, and my computer constantly freezes, particularly when I try to access the new drive or copy anything to it. Do you think that the drive itself is faulty or that I haven't installed it correctly?

Does the drive show up in the BIOS. I would run WD drive diagnostics on the drive, either download it from WD, or burn a copy of Ultimate Boot CD.

It does show up in the bios, and is excluded from the boot order, which i understand is supposed to be the case since im just using the new drive for storage. It also shows up under device manger and in the my computer panel. However, anytime i try to access or use it, my computer freezes.

not yet. The laptop works fine when i'm not trying to access the new hdd, and when i remove it there is no problem with the computer at all. At the moment I'm just trying to figure out whether there is something I'm supposed to do to with the bios or some other computer setting, or whether the drive is faulty and i should get it exchanged.
