CD DVD Issues
Recently I have noticed my CD/DVD drive cant play audio CDs. It can read everything BUT audio CDs. I have made sure that it isn't a problem with the CD. So I decided to add another drive to my system via IDE (Sony).
Since that, my (ASUS) SATA optical drive is no longer visible to the Windows OS. Only the Sony optical drive. I don't understand why it's no longer is visible. The Sony drive is connected as Primary IDE but that shouldn't effect the SATA drive, correct? I feel like I should just scrap the ASUS drive.
*Note: A while ago my ASUS drive wasn't able to be recognized by Windows and I had used a cd/dvd fix.

Can you try the asus drive in a different computer?
Can you connect it via usb with an adapter?
Try a different cable? Different port?

Is it visible in Disk Management? It may just need to be assigned a drive letter.

I don't have another desktop that I can test it with. I'll try a different cable/different port & let you know.

I just opened up the case, and saw that the SATA data cable had been unplugged...
So I plugged it back in and it was able to recognize it. That solves that but my drive still has issues playing audio CDs. I'd like to not have the Sony drive installed because of the IDE cable it uses. The ASUS drive will play through a fraction of the CD and then an error will pop up. I played the CDs on a couple music players and the problem continues. Foobar throws a decoding error and Windows Media Player throws a disc error & suggests me to turn on error correction. I turned on error correction and did nothing.

It plays everything else just fine though. I've tested DVDs and game discs. Oh well. It's not like DVD/CD drives are expensive anyways.

Depending on the game, the discs might be DVDs. In which case, it sounds like your CD laser/reader is dying, but the DVD laser is fine.
