SATA Drives Not Recognized
I recently purchased a Guardian Maximus external dual drive enclosure for a new HTPC I'm putting together. I have two identical Western Digital 500GB SATA drives installed. Not being real familiar with SATA drives in an external enclosure, I have a question. After installing the drives in the enclosure, hooking up power, and USB, the drives are not recognized at all. Is there a SATA controller card driver that must be installed? I'm using XP and having a hard time getting this figured out. Any help on this issue would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Not if you are connecting it through USB. It should be like any other USB mass storage device.

OK, so what do I actually have to do in order for my computer to recognize these drives?
Somebody's got to have the answer...

When you plugged the USB cable in and powered up the enclosure, did the new hardware wizard run?

No, it didn't do a thing other than make the noise as any USB would when first plugged in.

SATA Drives Not Recognized
It should have automatically installed a USB Mass Storage Device, followed by a couple hard drives. Please review the documentation for the housing, it is POSSIBLE it requires a special driver to be installed - and very possibly it needs to be installed PRIOR to connecting it for the first time.

SATA Drives Not Recognized
After finally getting in touch with a tech at www.macsales.com who new something about the enclosure, he was able to diagnose the problem. Kind of what I'd expected from the beginning. The SATA control card in the enclosure was bad. There are LED lights on the front of the external drive that if it is working correctly they are to be green in color. The lights were all red. Of course it does not mention that anywhere in the installation instructions. I had checked out both identical Western Digital SATA drives that had been installed and they both formatted just fine. So I had to send the enclosure back and they are in the process of sending me a new unit. Hopefully somebody takes the time to check it out before they send me the replacement. Thanks for all the help and great comments.

SATA Drives Not Recognized
I finally received the replacement drive from macsales.com. The new unit seems to work fine, recognizing one hard drive. I formatted both new SATA drives prior to installation in the new enclosure.
My new question is - do I have to use this external drive strickly as a RAID 0 drive or can I some how set it up so I can use both drives individually? Like say drives F: & G:?
Both drives are identical WD SATA 500GB.
Thanks, any help will be appreciated...

SATA Drives Not Recognized
We would not have any idea without being able to read the enclosure's manual.
