Anyone read sniper one by Sgt Dan Mills

It is simply the best factual war book I have ever read. Very exciting. I really can't recommend it enough. Read in 2 days flat!!

Just wondering .. are there any other 'fact' war books you could suggest? I'm not talking about made up stuff by Mr Mcnab, but 'true' accounts of modern day warfare?

I think I've got a taste for it now ..

Great book, although it was a bit too simple in style for me and I didn't like the constant use of nicknames, although I understand why they were put in.

Generation Kill is a great read and is a good juxtaposition to how our forces operate compared with the septics.

Forgot about generation kill picked it up on a whim and really enjoyed it, the tv series based on it I didn't find overly enjoyable though it could have been because I was constantly comparing it to the book

Mmm...

I really enjoyed Sniper1. Another good read is the book by the ex Irish soldier (name escapes me...Collins?) about his time in Iraq. He got made a scapegoat if I remember correctly. A really good read.

Rules of Engagement: A Life in Conflict by Tim Collins.

I'm currently working my way through Goose Green by Mark Adkin, its a very good account of the build up to, and assault on Goose Green, by 2 Para, including excerpts from accounts by bother british and argentinian officers (more of the former, less of the latter). But either way, a very interesting read into the tactical decisions being made by both sides before/during the assault.

I loved Sniper One, great book.

If you haven't read 'Bravo Two Zero' by Andy McNab then it's an absolute must.

Attack State Red

It's the story of the six-month tour of duty of the Royal Anglian Regiment in Helmand in 2007. From the same people who did sniper one, I believe. It really is excellent. I gave it my Dad to read after I'd read it and he was moved to tears in parts.

Oh and don't forget the daddy of them all:

"A Bridge Too Far", by Cornelius Ryan.

Got both of theese, only read pegasus bridge so far, very good account of the capture and holding of the bridge, must read the vulcan story, iirc its one of the longest bombing raids flown at that time, ascension island was the saring base?

Another book id reccomend is marine sniper, the story of Carlos hathcock, usmc, 97 confirmed kills in vietnam, one wih a .50 calibre browning m2 machine gun with a scope mounted on it, (2500 yrds), only beat a few years ago by a canadian sniper, (Rob furlong, 2600 yrds iirc), a very interesting book.
