Whilst there is racism in Italian football why is "go home Balotelli" racist? Just because he's black? The same things have been said of Camoranesi in the past and undoubtedly will be about Amauri. Fabio Liverani had, to my knowledge, no such problems.

What's annoying is that every time opposing fans were booing Balotelli, everyone was jumping on the racism bandwagon because he's black, completely ignoring the fact his behaviour can be atrocious and he's hated primarily for his actions.

No he's primarily had such a **** up bringing, abused almost everywhere he's been that it's unsurprising his mood and behaviour are often rash. I don't normally take time to listen to the 'race card' for coloured people born and raised in a 'foreign' country but with him it's actually a pretty big issue. Don't forget outside the large racial issues he's suffered with he's gone through a lot of family problems too.

Being overtly racist is still a common problem in Italy, and it's not really unfashionable to act like that. Look at their football crowds and it's easy to still get a feeling there are a lot of fascists there. I remember years ago Vieira stating he'd never return to Italy for that very reason...(who says they're not motivated by money eh? ).

Going to Spain a few years ago, even in the tourist areas, was pretty weird as well. They too have an overtly acceptable view on it. Those examples above, coupled with the 'meh' attitude the Spaniards had when Henry was referred to as a "black *****" really does lead me to believe their and the Italians' attitudes towards racism is pretty much like Britain in the 1970s, i.e. backward, uneducated and plain ignorant.

Italian football has notoriously been plagued with racism and right wing sympathies for many years - Italy itself is not as multi-cultural as England for example, and coupled with the countries' previous fascist hierachy leads to this draconian behaviour.

I can understand why people in Italy give Balotelli stick over his attitude, but at the same time GreenLizard is right. If you read a bio of the guy's life he's not had it easy at all, and you can sympathise with him completely.

People are totally spot on about pointing to Spain and Italy's fascist history as contributory factors. It's easy to forget that Spain was a dictatorship right up until 1978! That kind of political situation fosters or even actively encouraged racism, and it's easy to see why the attitude prevails in places, particularly among older generations.

Balotelli played for Italy earlier this week for the first time which was good to see. The conspiracy theorists were all up in arms saying he was never going to get picked by an older coach like Lippi who still has that racist mindset because it's a generational thing. Nice to see that that isn't even a consideration for a younger coach like Cesare Prandelli.

Cameronesi wasn't born in Italy, Balotelli WAS. He's seen as a lucky black kid whose taken up slots in teams that white kids were denied, and he only got where he is because a white family brought him up.

He's had a LOT of crap all his life, and his attitude on the pitch to his fans is clearly because of that, he got that kind of chanting and problems way before he got an attitude. The chants aren't about him being an a-hole, they aren't talking about his talent or anything else, the chants from fans are always about him being black and yes Italy is awful for racism.

Seedorf, and just about everyone says the treatment is awful in Italy, from their own fans, scoring a goal and being booed by your own fans says just how bad it is. Its not everyone, but there are the "ultra's" at most of the big clubs in Italy and they are a bunch of *****.

Have any Italians who have been racist towards him actually said that? If not then why have you typed as though this is absolute fact, proven by many official press releases from those behavnig in such a way?

Actually you'll find his attitude is made by Mourinho's inability to manage him. He was nothing like this when Mancini was in charge of Inter and the way his own team-mates treated him - and not because of his colour - he's ended up being an idiot. Plenty of players have had a difficult upbringing and they don't all act the way he does.

The chants are NOT always about his colour. Where did you get that BS from exactly? Do you pay attention to Serie A or not? If you do, stop making things up which you know are untrue. If you don't, stop making things up for the sake of them fitting into the point you're trying to make.

And to put it in perspective, if Ronaldo was seen in a Barca shirt then Real fans would go mad, if Rooney was seen in a Liverpool shirt then Utd fans would go mad. When Balotelli was pictured walking around in a Milan shirt then a lot of people lost any respect they had for him. A great talent with a mind so small he makes Bellamy and Barton look like deep thinkers.
