Emergency got puncture

Oh no! Only started driving last week, got a flat already. Trying to loosen wheel nuts but no go unfortunately. I do need to turn them anti-clockwise right?
Please help, it's raining to make matters worse

Yes anti clock wise.

Well the car is lifting up off the ground and the nuts just aren't nudging. My back is well and truly into it

Clark Nova

Emergency got puncture

stand on it if needed, or leverage against the ground

acemastr

stand on it and bounce up and down. don't forget to steady yourself with your hands on the roof.

car is lifted off the ground???
Put car back on ground, into gear and try again.
If this fails find a hollow metal pipe and add more leverage, most likely the bolts have been over torqued by an air gun.

if that fails get some to hlafrauds and pick up a tire inflater/ foam thingy and go to your local garage.

Loosen the wheel nuts before jacking up!

It is serious unfortunately. Got a lift, had to leave it while I go home to get some long pipe. Great way to start the weekend.

Don't worry about him, people don't understand that experience is earned through doing.

Might need to get a breaker bar if I can't find this pipe in the father-in-law's garage.

Don't know that i'm the Hulk as such but the whole of the wheel was off the ground and the tyre sucked in air as I lifted it. It's only an old Clio mk2 so not the heaviest car anyway.

He's only driving a week, give him a break. First flat I got I used the little tool provided and wouldn't move, added a pipe on to get leverage and it ripped the tool in half

I got a telescopic socket from Halfords which I keep in the boot now - does a good job even when they've been over torqued.

Remember to put the handbrake on if it is off the ground

Overclockers uk, for all your motoring needs, no job too small

DiamondMark

I remember my friend standing with both feet on the lever and the nuts still not budging!

This is when having an AA membership becomes totally worth it.

TS7

As the others have said:

Car on ground, in gear and with the handbrake on.
Stand on the bar and try bouncing it.
Failing that it's either find a bit of scaffold or use a proper breaker bar.

If he posts up his location I bet that someone lives/works nearby!

Nuts tightened by impact wrench = fail. Nearly put my back out last time I had to undo some of them, and that was using a cross brace :/

These are good, especially for cracking the nuts. And pretty cheap as well. I also have a cross-brace which it better for undoiing and doing up imo

lefty loosey, righty tighty

Thomas. PLease.

Emergency got puncture

Maybe I'm being silly but why are you trying to lift the wheel? surely lifting the bar is counterproductive as the wheel then comes off the ground and you're not being helped by the friction of the tyre on the ground. Can't you just flip it so that you're pushing down rather than pulling up? Or rotate the wheel 180 degrees? Then you can jump on it as mentioned and get a lot more force...

You dont even have to touch them?

Defcon5

1/16th of a turn tightening them first to 'break' the threads, it doesn't break them but you'll hear an almighty crack, then loosen away!

Went back on Saturday morning with a bit of pipe and there was indeed an almighty crack as all of the nuts came loose first attempt. Bit of pipe now lives in the boot with the spare

Clark Nova

Just get one of these: http://www.diytools.co.uk/diy/Main/s...nut-wrench.asp

Extends out for plenty of leverage.

I wouldn't do this, WD40 + brakes might not be the best idea

bledd.

Emergency got puncture

You won't get it on the brakes if you spray the nuts.
