KT6V MS-7021 Ver 1 trouble Help Please

Hi, I just got the MSI KT6V-LSR motherboard about 4 days ago. This computer is intended for my syster nothing special about haiving 2 HD's and etc. Anyways, I'm having an issue with the SATA. I got a Maxtor 120GB Hd SATA and itís used as the OS drive. There is no other drive execpt for that one. When I first installed it I used the SATA driver disk provided, loaded XP, updated it and software/games. Few days later, when I try to load XP, it shows the boot screen, but I see no HD activity then the right when it seems it's going to go into windows, the PC reboots. It will do this everytime if I let it go. Granted it booted fine to xp and games worked prior to this problem for about 2 days. When I try to reinstall XP, I again load the SATA driver and then it gets stuck at the point where it says, ?examining Drive 0 id 0 bay 0Ö..?. I tried the Maxtor PowerMax utiltity to see fi the drive is bad, but when I run the program from the floppy, it has dots that tells you it's progress. And only only got past 2 dots then the program didn't do anything afterwards. I'd let it go for 10 min or so and the dame two dots would be there. So basically I can't test the drive. But the HD light stays lit. The program said it should only take a minute to detect the HD.

Now on startup, I plug the SATA HD into port 1, motherboard sees it on startup. Plug it into #2 port, and it sees it on that as well. Same result as above. Then I try to get into the SATA VIA BIOS but I can't navigate in it. I see the hard drive in it, but the only thing I can do is escape the the utility. So basically I'm running out of ideas.

It seems to be the memory, a bad or faulty SATA controller or HD, or maybe it's something else I'm not sure. Thanks for your help.

Also...

Iíve tried 2 different SATA cables and the 4 pin power connector and also the power supply SATA power connector. I got it from newegg.com what the exact problem is and I can't seem to find anything to help me solve this issue.

Thanks,

Aaron.

KT6V MS-7021 Ver 1 trouble Help Please

Well this morning I turned on the pc and smelled something funny. I think hte memory finally got to the motherboard. I turned it off then turned it back on to see if the smell would come back but it didn't post when I turned it on. I took the memory out and noticed it has a chip on one of hte gold leds. I didn't see this at first but the computer seemed work fine -> having freeze on XP setup on examining the drives / rebooting on xp boot screen -> not posting anymore. I put my stick of memory in it and it still didn't post.

So I guess I'll tell that to newegg.com and get the memory and the board RMA'd since it's still under the 30 day warranty by their policy and get them replaced.
